He's been ridden by adult men (some just learning to barrel race) and teenage girls/adults. He goes in the arena ready to do his job each time. He does not knock in barrels, just kick and guide him. [Ad# 2749] Quarter Horse GeldingSock is insulin resistant. I did not have him vet checked when I bought him, so after being in his stall here for a day of acclimation and I took him for a ride and he was so sore he couldn't go I did not understand it. It took a lot of time to figure out what the problem was. Finally, we got it figured out BUT I don't have a barn that a horse can be kept constantly stalled in. My pastures are all grass, no bare lot. I have at lot apple and pear trees in and around the pastures that I am not allowed to cut down. With a late frost last spring there was no fruit last fall. I feed him 3 cups(1 lb) Triple Crown 30 in a.m. I've had him on Heiro since September. My horses had a round bale in the shed at all times. He came out of winter sound and not sore. I rode him up and down rocky steep hills. Trotted on the twp. road. He was trotting & cantering on any trail with no soreness and as much speed as I wanted. But after the grass came on, even with a grazing muzzle he became sore. Sock is gentle, excellent for the vet and farrier and has very good manners. He has shown no dominant tendencies. He would make someone a really good horse if he could just be kept off grass and on hay all year. The photo was taken March 8th so now all that is green grass.
