Horsemanship 1 (5-Day Course)
with Patrick King
Define and develop your horse's solid foundation.
September 29 - October 3, 2010

This is ‘Square One’ when it comes to training your horse – you need to have this in place before you can move on and progress. In the development of your horse’s foundation, this is the first building block.

Build trust and respect, and help your horse to be a safe and confident partner. From the common basics like standing still to be mounted and riding on a loose rein, to crossing water and loading confidently in a trailer, Horsemanship 1 touches on and explains all the skills that Patrick views as necessary for a horse at the GREEN stage in his training.

This course offers the first building blocks of your horse's foundation as a horseman, regardless of breed or discipline, and is a prerequisite for further horsemanship courses. Horsemanship Fundamentals is an important prerequisite to the Horsemanship 1 course, unless otherwise approved by Patrick King.

Introduce and/or refine your horses versatility and maneuverability for safe enjoyable trail riding or competition obstacle courses. You will build your horses confidence through many elements introduced in the arenas, an open obstacle course and wooded areas.

Introduction to Ranch Roping with Bob Sagely
Saturday, October 23 10:00-4:00
Rider Tuition ~ $80
Audit Tuition ~ $25

•Slow and easy; fun and safe; we don’t chase cattle and we don’t run our horses!
•You don’t have to be able to swing a rope to get started... but you'll be able to before we are done!
•You don’t need a special, highly trained "roping" horse, you’ll both learn the basics together in this introductory clinic. Prerequisite for Intermediate "Live Cow" Clinic
Learn to rope like the old-time buckaroos and the true working hands of today.

A growing awareness of the older style of handling cattle on the open range is reaching across America. People are appreciating more and more a type of horsemanship called "natural" that has its roots in the Californio style of bridle horses and cattle work. It’s not high-speed rodeo roping. It is the humane control of livestock from horseback using one of mankind’s oldest tools the "reata larga" or long rope. Done slowly, quietly and calmly, this type of livestock handling has been around for centuries but found its ultimate expression in the skills of the Old Californio vaqueros and their long, rawhide reatas. The skills of handling the long rope go hand in hand with advancing your horsemanship abilities. They give meaning to the things we ask our horses to do, whether by roping live cattle and horses or simulating the activity with roping dummies.

For more information visit or www.risingranch.com

Audit space is open for all clinics. For complete clinic, facility and registration information visit www.risingranch.com.

Here's to a great season of fun and learning with our horses!

Deriece Caro Memorial Trail Ride Benefit
For many of you who knew Deriece you knew that in the Fall of 2009 she started the planning stages for a benefit horse ride to raise money for the American Cancer Society to help fund the cure for cancer. Deriece was wanting to have the ride in the Spring of 2010 to honor her brother Michael Barclay who passed away from Leukemia in 1991 at age 30. This cause was near and dear to Deriece, unfortunately Deriece shockingly passed away on January 7, 2010 at age 51 from a unsuspected heart attack caused by an unknown viral infection that settled in her heart from a cold she was fighting. When this happened Deriece’s cause was obviously put on hold until her family and friends came together to honor Deriece’s memory and to fulfill her dream.

So come out on September 25, 2010 and honor Deriece and help fund the fight to cure cancer.
